The Langano area is a popular weekend gateway for many people in Ethiopia. It is fascinating and the views are captivating. Wenney Eco-lodge has a great deal to offer.

GAME VIEWING
The Langano area is rich in wildlife. Located in the Rift Valley region, this area is rich in bird life as well as animals. Game seen here include Grant’s gazelle, greater kudu, oribi, warthog, Golden jackal, etc.

BIRD WATCHING
Lake Langano and the surrounding Shalla, Abyata and Awasa Rift Valley lakes are a birding paradise. They are home to many bird species including a large number of white pelicans, pink flamingos, white-necked cormorants, herons, storks, fish eagles, spoonbills, ibises, ducks, gulls, terns, other common water birds, the rare ground horn bill, etc.

SWIMMING and SUNBATHING
The area provides a heavenly atmosphere for honeymooners and vacationers.

FISHING
Fishing is popular at the Rift Valley lakes with an ample supply of tilapia and catfish.

HOT SPRINGS
Revered locally for their medicinal properties, the hot springs have a sense of primeval mystery about them. They are relics of the massive volcanic activity that formed the amazing landscape in the area.

The local Oromo people bathe here and use the hottest springs to boil their corn for eating. This is a site not to be missed as the nature and operation of these hot springs on the shores of Lake Shalla are fascinating.

MOUNTAIN BIKING and HORSE RIDING
You will enjoy exhilarating mountain biking as well as great horse riding. The trails seem endless and offer a variety of plant life and trees along the way.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS
Senkello Swayne’s hartebeest sanctuary is located 70km from the town of Shashamene, and is close to the Chitu entrance of Abyata-Shalla National Park. Although it is small, it is well worth a visit as it is one of only four places where these endemic animals have been confined. Other animals including bohor reedbuck and warthogs are also found here.

The Bale Mountains National Park is also nearby.
